Listeria, a bacteria results in flu-like symptoms, muscle ache, chills, diarrhea, and nausea. In rare instances, listeria can lead to meningitis. Pregnant women, infants and the elderly are more vulnerable than others.
The FSA has advised against consumption of the product and return it. In response to the situation, Sainsbury's has expressed regret for any inconvenience caused.
This incident follows similar recalls in the food industry, including instances involving Costa Coffee sandwiches and wraps containing small stones, as well as Cadbury-branded desserts like Flake and Crunchie chocolate products due to potential listeria contamination.
Additionally, Baronet semi-soft cheeses faced a recall in the UK in March due to concerns regarding bacterial contamination, tragically resulting in one fatality. Several major supermarket chains, including Asda, Sainsbury's, and Tesco, have also recently recalled chilled products due to apprehensions of plastic and metal fragment contamination.
