'Inappropriately debanking me': Trump threatens lawsuit against JPMorgan over post-Jan 6 banking ban
President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he plans to sue JPMorgan Chase within weeks, accusing the bank of “incorrectly and inappropriately debanking” him after the January 6, 2021 Capitol protest.

Trump paired the threat of litigation with a rebuttal of a report by The Wall Street Journal that said he had offered JPMorgan chief executive Jamie Dimon the role of chair of the Federal Reserve.

The two-time president called the claim “totally untrue,” saying no such offer was ever made and faulting the newspaper for not seeking comment before publication.

“"A front page Article in The Fake News Wall Street Journal states, without any verification, that I offered Jamie Dimon, of JPMorgan Chase, the job of Fed Chairman. This statement is totally untrue, there was never such an offer and, in fact, I’ll be suing JPMorgan Chase over the next two weeks for incorrectly and inappropriately DEBANKING me after the January 6th Protest, a protest that turned out to be correct for those doing the protesting — The Election was RIGGED! ” Trump wrote in a lengthy post on Truth Social.

He further said the report should have been easily debunked with a phone call and insisted that the bank’s alleged account actions against him are the real issue now headed to court.

Trump also dismissed suggestions that he considered Dimon for Treasury secretary, saying he is satisfied with Scott Bessent, whom he praised as “a superstar.”

"Why wouldn’t The Wall Street Journal call me to ask whether or not such an offer was made? I would have very quickly told them, “NO,” and that would have been the end of the story. Also, one was led to believe that I offered Jamie Dimon the job of Secretary of the Treasury, but that would be one that he would be very interested in. The problem is, I have Scott Bessent doing a fantastic job," his post read.

In an email response to Reuters, JPMorgan bank spokesperson Trish Wexler confirmed that no such offer had been made to the CEO.

The episode adds to a growing list of legal clashes Trump has pursued since returning to office last January. Over the past year, Trump has sued or threatened legal action against major organisations, primarily media, such as The New York Times, CBS News, and the BBC over coverage he has described as defamatory or misleading.
