Oracle 6 a.m. layoff notice: The letter that shocked thousands on March 31. Now many fear they would get one on September 1

Oracle laid off thousands of employees globally on March 31, with some affected workers reportedly receiving termination notices as early as 6 a.m. ET.

The job cuts, reportedly about 30,000, were communicated through emails from “Oracle Leadership,” which said the employees’ roles had been eliminated as part of a broader organizational change. The notice told affected workers: “As a result, today is your last working day.”

Employees who posted about the layoffs on Reddit’s r/employeesOfOracle subreddit and Blind said they received little or no advance warning from managers or HR before the emails arrived. Some reported that their access to Oracle systems was revoked shortly after receiving the notices.


The scale of the cuts varied across teams. Employee reports alleged significant reductions in some Oracle business units, including RHS (Revenue and Health Sciences) and SVOS (SaaS and Virtual Operations Services). Some workers reported that multiple engineers and managers were among those affected.

What did Oracle's layoff email say?

The termination notice, as reported by the Times of India earlier, explained that employees would be eligible for severance after completing their termination paperwork. The paperwork was to be delivered through DocuSign to their Oracle email accounts.

The email also instructed workers to provide a personal email address so Oracle could send follow-up information, including FAQs and separation documents.

The notice, screenshots of which were shared by affected employees, read: "We are sharing some difficult news regarding your position. After careful consideration of Oracle's current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change. As a result, today is your last working day. We are grateful for your dedication, hard work, and the impact you have made during your time with us. After signing your termination paperwork, you will be eligible to receive a severance package subject to the terms and conditions of the severance plan. You will receive an email from DocuSign to your Oracle email address with details on your severance and termination date."

Could Oracle announce another major layoff round?

Meanwhile, reports have suggested that Oracle could conduct another significant round of job cuts around September 1.

The potential cuts have been linked to Oracle's enormous investment in AI infrastructure and data centers. TD Cowen has reportedly estimated that Oracle could cut between 20,000 and 30,000 jobs, potentially representing roughly 18% of its global workforce.

The restructuring is reportedly intended to help Oracle generate billions of dollars in additional cash flow to fund its aggressive AI infrastructure expansion.

Oracle's AI strategy has required enormous capital spending and additional borrowing, putting increased pressure on the company's finances. The company has nevertheless continued to post strong earnings growth as it expands its cloud and AI businesses.

If another round of layoffs does occur, employees could once again face uncertainty over when and how they will be notified. For workers who received the March 31 emails, the abrupt arrival of a 6 a.m. termination notice became one of the most striking aspects of Oracle's restructuring.
