Melania's hat at Donald Trump's inauguration starts a meme fest

Melania Trump attended her husband Donald Trump’s second presidential inauguration on Mondayu. The inauguration marked Trump’s swearing-in as the 47th President of the United States in 2025.

Mrs. Trump wore a navy blue and ivory outfit. The ensemble included a custom-made Adam Lippes double-breasted coat and matching skirt, paired with an ivory blouse. She accessorized with black leather gloves, dark blue suede Manolo Blahnik heels, and a wide-brimmed white-banded boater hat designed by Eric Javits.

Talking about the hat, Lippes, the designer, stated, “The tradition of the presidential inauguration embodies the beauty of American democracy and today we had the honor to dress our first lady, Mrs. Trump. Mrs. Trump’s outfit was created by some of America’s finest craftsmen and I take great pride in showing such work to the world. With deep gratitude to Mrs. Trump for her trust and collaboration.”


The hat, however, faced a last-minute challenge. Javits, the hatmaker, explained that the original hat was damaged during shipping. “I guess the hat arrived all crushed. It looked like it had been sitting in snow drifts for about a week. Obviously, I had to scramble to redo it. It couldn’t really be repaired, because of the construction of it.” He added, “It was a little bit of a cliffhanger.” A new hat was created and hand-delivered to Mrs. Trump by her stylist, Hervé Pierre.

The first lady’s attire, however, started a meme fest online.

Many drew comparisons to the fictional character Carmen Sandiego on social media, with some users commenting on the resemblance of the hat. Other online comments ranged from describing her look as "Dark MAGA" to praising her style and elegance.

"Melania looks like she's about to one-shot you with her hat in Goldeneye 007," wrote one.



"Who's that dude sitting next to Trump in a hat," wrote another


Another commented, "Melania’s hat did a better job as a buffer zone than the UN ever could."


Another said, "Melania Trump is trying way too hard. Take the damn governess hat off."

Another X user slammed Melania saying, "Melania is STILL wearing that stupid hat!! Does she think she’s in London at a Royal event? Worst “1st lady” ever."
