'Who did most harm to Ozone layer?': Piyush Goyal holds up the mirror to Europe on climate change

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has criticised European Union regulations on carbon emissions and deforestation, warning that the rules could raise costs for European businesses, weaken their competitiveness and invite retaliatory trade measures. Speaking at the Berlin Global Dialogue in Germany, Goyal said measures such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) risked hurting the European economy they were intended to protect. “Europe is trying to foist an artificial situation onto themselves,” he said, accusing European governments of creating barriers through what he described as excessive standards and protection for certain industries.
