'We run on 10% margins,’ Karnataka vendors protest GST notices on UPI transactions over ₹40 lakh
Small vendors and traders across Karnataka have raised alarm after receiving GST notices for UPI transactions exceeding ₹40 lakh annually, saying the combined tax and penalty burden is unaffordable. Their association and legal representatives blamed the government for not educating sellers about tax rules, while the BJP accused the Congress-led state government of targeting small businesses and weaponizing digital payment data.
