The bench of Justices A S Oka and Rajesh Bindal rejected a plea by Haryana Staff Selection Commission (SSC) that challenged the High Court verdict of quashing a state notification granting additional marks to domiciles of Haryana in the recruitment process during the Common Entrance Test of 2023 (CET 2023).
The apex court also ordered for fresh examinations, which were held last year, be conducted for Group C and Group D employees.
Attorney General R Venkataramani argued that there was no need for a re-examination and that the results could be declared after excluding the additional marks granted to state residents. The top court, however, said that the High Court had given reasons for the retest.
Under the “socio-economic” criteria, additional weightage was given to candidates from Haryana on fulfilling certain terms. The conditions included none of the applicant’s family members was a regular government employee and the gross family income was less than Rs 1.8 lakh per annum.
