Salal Dam on Chenab dredged for first time in decades following Indus water treaty suspension
For the first time in decades, dredging has begun on the Chenab after restrictions under the Indus Waters Treaty were lifted. The biggest operational impact is visible at the Salal Power Station in Reasi, where silt had cut reservoir capacity from 284 MCM to 9.91 MCM. Desilting has lifted capacity to 14 MCM, with plans to reopen six under-sluice gates.
