PM Modi urges citizens to stay hydrated, protect vulnerable groups amid rising heatwave
In a public message amid intensifying heatwave conditions, Modi advised people to “take as many precautions as possible” and ensure they remain hydrated while stepping outdoors. “Please keep yourselves hydrated and carry water with you when stepping out of your homes,” he said.
The Prime Minister also called for greater social sensitivity during the summer months, encouraging people to help those in need. “If possible, do offer a glass of water to anyone who is thirsty,” he said, while appreciating citizens who place earthen pitchers and drinking water facilities outside homes and shops for passersby.
Warning against ignoring symptoms linked to excessive heat exposure, Modi said discomfort such as dizziness, nausea and unusual fatigue should be taken seriously. He advised immediate action if someone appears weak or faints due to the heat.
“If someone around you suddenly feels faint, experiences weakness, or appears unwell, immediately take them to a cool and shaded place. Give them water, ORS, or other fluids,” he said.
“In such times, your vigilance and care can save a life,” Modi said.

He also urged people to regularly check on elderly family members, including parents and grandparents, and advise them to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon heat while maintaining adequate fluid intake and rest.
“Let us, in these difficult days, look after one another with complete sensitivity and compassion,” the Prime Minister said.
