The ministry of electronics and information technology (Meity) has written to the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) asking them to prioritise the revamp of its centralized IT system through the development of the De-Novo system, saying the current technology stack and support platform is already on the verge of obsolescence.

In a letter dated June 18, 2024, Meity said that though the retirement fund body had initiated the project in January 2023, some of the requirements in connection with the revamped system have still not been received from EPFO.

“This is delaying subsequent design and development stages by C-DAC,” it said.

Stating that C-DAC has taken proactive measures for EPFO to reduce the rejected claims and has initiated development of the revamp system with assumptions, Miety urged EPFO to sign off the final requirement specification at the earliest in light of the urgency of the matter and to avoid any further delays.

Meity, further, informed EPFO that there is an imminent need to revamp the unified portal application of EPFO. “The supporting infrastructure setup may be augmented accordingly to support the software system,” it said, adding that the centralised IT-enabled system (CITES) will function as an integral component.
