MEA reacts to Bangladesh FM Khalilur Rahman’s ‘push-in’ remarks; says 2860 verifications pending

India has responded firmly to Bangladesh’s remarks on alleged “pushback” incidents, saying the issue must be viewed in the context of repatriating illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said over 2,860 nationality verification requests remain pending with Bangladesh, many for more than five years. The remarks come after Bangladesh leaders raised concerns following the BJP’s victory in West Bengal, where illegal immigration emerged as a major election issue.
