Manipur: Internet services resume in nine districts

With no fresh incidents, the Manipur government on Monday lifted the temporary suspension on internet services from the nine districts. The Internet has been banned since November 16.

N. Ashok Kumar, Commissioner (Home) in an order stated, “Whereas, State Government, after reviewing the prevailing law and order situation and its possible correlation with the general operation of internet services, decided to lift all form of temporary suspension of internet and data services in the territorial jurisdiction of Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Jiribam and Pherzawl districts of Manipur”.



The order stated, “Therefore, under the power conferred as per Rule 2 of Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017, the Governor of Manipur is pleased to revoke all forms of temporary suspension of internet and data services in the territorial jurisdiction of Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Jiribam and Pherzawl districts of Manipur with immediate effect.All internet users are requested to refrain from any activities which may cause threat to general law and situation in the State which may warrant temporary suspension of internet services in future”.


Mobs have gone on rampage after the recovery of the bodies of six missing women and children in the violence-hit Jiribam district recently.

Around 10 armed militants were killed in heavy exchange of fire in Manipur's Jiribam district recently. Two CRPF jawans also suffered injuries. Kuki organisations claimed that those killed were village volunteers and not militants.

Kuldiep Singh security advisor recently said that till now 258 people have been killed including militants since May 3 last year.
