Authorities said the victim's body was discarded in the Indira Canal, and a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team has been deployed to locate it.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Shashank Singh stated that Gajanan, a resident of Chinhat, had placed an order for the iPhone, valued at approximately Rs 1.5 lakh, through Flipkart, choosing the Cash on Delivery (COD) payment option.
"On September 23, delivery boy, Bharat Sahu of Nishatganj, went to deliver the phone at his place where he was killed by Gajanan and his accomplice. After strangulating Sahu, they put his body in a sack and disposed it off in the Indira Canal," he said.
When Sahu failed to return home for two days, his family filed a missing persons report at the Chinhat police station on September 25.
While reviewing Sahu's call logs and attempting to track his location, the police discovered Gajanan's number and were able to contact his friend Akash.
During questioning, Akash admitted to the crime, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Police. The authorities are still searching for the body.
"The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team is trying to find the body of the victim in the canal," the officer said.
