Inside Assam’s new ₹227-Crore Batadrava Cultural Project at Sankardeva’s Birthplace
The ₹227-crore Batadrava Cultural Project has been inaugurated in Assam’s Nagaon district, redeveloping Batadrava Than, the birthplace of Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankardeva. Spread across 162 bighas of encroachment-free land, the project blends Sattriya-inspired architecture with modern visitor infrastructure. Key features include the world’s tallest Guru Asana, themed guest houses, an art and research centre, and a japi-shaped cultural theatre. The project aims to preserve Assam’s Vaishnavite heritage while positioning Borduwa as a major spiritual and cultural tourism destination.
