India’s GDP grows at 7.8% in Q1, beats RBI forecast; is it enough for ‘Viksit Bharat’ goal?

India’s economy grew 7.8% in the April-June quarter of FY27, beating the RBI’s 7% forecast and market expectations of 7.1%. Manufacturing, financial and professional services, electricity and construction drove growth, while personal consumption rose 7.1% and investment increased by nearly 12%. But the picture is mixed. Growth slowed from the revised 8.6% recorded in the previous quarter, while agriculture growth moderated to 3.6% and mining contracted 2.4%. With high oil prices, West Asia tensions, costlier raw materials and rupee weakness posing risks, the bigger question is whether India can sustain faster growth.
