French President Macron warns: ‘US turning away from allies’, stresses rejection of new colonialism

French President Emmanuel Macron warned on January 8 that the United States is “gradually turning away” from its allies and “breaking free from international rules.” Speaking to French ambassadors at the Élysée Palace, he called for strategic autonomy for Europe and rejected “new colonialism and new imperialism” amid rising global tensions over Venezuela, Greenland, and multilateral governance.
