Most ecommerce and online grocery and food delivery firms on Sunday scaled down their operations in Telangana citing absence of clear official communication from authorities, after the state police blocked their services after 10 am on Saturday.

Telangana is under a partial 18-hours-a-day lockdown from 10 am to 6 am till the month end, and the police intensified its enforcement after chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed dissatisfaction with lockdown implementation on Friday amid rising number of Covid-19 cases.

Food delivery services such as Swiggy and Zomato on Sunday confined their services mostly to the four-hour relaxation tie in the morning as most of their partner restaurants and cloud kitchens were closed down during the rest of the day. “We’re operational with limited options for food and other essential deliveries basis local directives,” a Swiggy spokesperson said.

Grocery delivery service providers like Bigbasket and Big Bazaar, too, mostly confined their operations from 6 am to 10 am.
