Discontent in ECI top brass? ‘Differences not friction’, says India's election body

The Election Commission of India is facing scrutiny after reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi formally raised objections at least 14 times over 10 months on decisions linked to electoral rolls and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The concerns included changes to Form 6 for new voters, access to the electoral-roll database, centralisation of election software and appeals in West Bengal. The ECI has rejected the suggestion of an internal rift, saying differing views are part of normal deliberation and that decisions of the full Commission over the past year were unanimous.
