Heavy rainfall disrupts North India as monsoon causes chaos, watch!
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a yellow alert for moderate rain to hit the capital city of Delhi. It is also forecasted that the city may experience thunderstorms and will have cloudy skies today. The Met department warned that the rains possibly could have an effect on the low-lying areas while disrupting the normal traffic flow in the city.

The city recorded 107 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Monday. However, according to IMD, Delhi recorded 153 mm of rainfall in 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Sunday, the highest in a single day in July since 1982.

As per the latest weather forecast, the minimum temperature on Monday was 25.1 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 32 degrees. The relative humidity at 8.30 a.m. in the morning was recorded at 95 per cent, news agency IANS reported.


However, over the next few days, the maximum temperature is forecasted to be above 32 degrees and below 36, and minimum temperature is stated to be less than 28 degrees but above 25.


Waterlogged city


While several parts of the city experienced waterlogging due to the incessant rains, as of Monday, the Pragati Maidan tunnel was closed for traffic on Monday, PTI reported citing the officials.

"Movement of traffic is restricted at Pragati Maidan tunnel due to waterlogging. Commuters are advised to plan their journey accordingly," the traffic police said in a tweet.

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) building was waterlogged after heavy rains splashed city for two consecutive days. NCLT, however, issued an official notice asking advocates and litigants not to come for physical hearing while informing that Central Public Works Department is inspecting the building for civil and electric faults.

“No adverse order be passed. The benches shall attend the matters through Virtual Hearing mode,” said the notice issued by Joint Registrar Kamal Sultanpuri, as assessed by PTI.

Meanwhile, the torrential rain in Delhi has started to affect the functioning of the High Court as well. Due to leakage, three courtrooms have been shifted to another room, ANI reported.

However, the chief justice of the Delhi High Court has agreed that no adverse order shall be passed if any lawyer is not able to appear before the court on Monday. Due to heavy rain, seepage and water leakage in some courtrooms.

Delhi CM calls for meeting to monitor the rain situation


The Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal has called for a meeting on Monday to monitor the waterlogging situation in the city as well as the water level of river Yamuna which is inching closer to the warning level.

The meeting will be attended by the Minister of Health in Delhi Saurabh Bharadwaj, Education Minister Atishi and other offiicals of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi among others.

They stated that River Yamuna water level at 8:00 am was recorded at 203.33 metres today at the Old Railway Bridge (Loha Pul), close to the warning level of 204.50 metres of the river, ANI reported.

The national capital on Sunday had declared a holiday for schools amid heavy rains in the city, citing concerns of damage in government school buildings.
