Delhi gets its first drive-through vaccination centre at Dwarka

On Wednesday, the Delhi government launched its first drive-through vaccination centre for adults above age 18. The centre has been established along with Aakash Healthcare Super Specialty Hospital at Vegas Mall, Sector-14 in Dwarka. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said more such centres will soon be established throughout Delhi when vaccine supply picks up.

The centre is one-of-a-kind where people can get their dose while sitting in the car. The vaccination centre operates in its routine manner from 9am-9pm and also has the drive-through facility from 9am-5pm.

The drive-through offers a safer way of getting vaccinated as social distancing can easily be maintained. Dr Aashish Chaudhry, MD, Aakash Healthcare hopes that this will encourage more young adults to get their dose. Walk-ins are not yet allowed at the centre as people have to register themselves at CoWIN and call 8800015999 (drive-through) or 8800015905 / 01143388888 (on-site) to get their dose.

Getting the jab inside the Mall will cost Rs 1,000 and at the drive-through for Rs 1,400. Aadhar Card also needs to be carried.

The centre is also planning to run a mobile unit to vacccinate people in residential societies and corporate offices, called VaxiVan. The drive-through centre allows people to social distance while in queue and wait for their dose in an orderly fashion.
