Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal promises 20 litres of RO water per person

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that Delhiites will get 20 litres of purified water per day in the areas where there are inadequate drinking water facilities. He was inspecting the along Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants in Mayapuri area along with minister Saurabh Bharadwaj.

The Delhi government has planned to install 500 water ATMs to provide drinking water treated using the RO process to people in slums and other such densely populated areas, the Chief Minister said.

"This card is like a water ATM. Through this, each person will get 20 litres of purified water in the areas where there are inadequate drinking water facilities," said Kejriwal after visiting RO plants.


During an inspection of an RO plant, he said four water ATMs have been installed and 500 are planned in the first phase.


Every person will be provided with a card which will let them draw 20 litres of water per day from these ATMs, the Chief Minister said.

Kejriwal added that the ATMs will be installed near slums and other such densely populated areas where pipelines can not be laid.

Water drawn through tube wells will be treated at the RO plants and then distributed among people through the water ATMs, he said.

In April this year, the CM had directed Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to take immediate action to solve the issue of contaminated water across several areas of the national capital.
