In a democracy, voting stands as a cornerstone of citizenship, carrying specific obligations set forth by the government. To engage in this democratic exercise, individuals must first register as voters and then actively participate by casting their ballots for their preferred candidates.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: How to find the nearest polling booth

One crucial step in this process is finding the correct polling booth within one's constituency. Here's how you can do it:

Online Method:
Visit the website www.nvsp.in and click on the option 'Know Your'.

Enter your EPIC number (the voter ID number on your ID card) and click 'Search'.
The page will display the booth name along with the Booth Level Officer's (BLO) name and contact number.

Helpline Assistance:
Alternatively, individuals can dial the voter helpline at 1950 (remember to include your city's STD code) for assistance.
They can also send an SMS with the format <ECIPS> followed by their EPIC number to 1950 for help in locating the polling station.

Voting Procedure
Upon reaching the assigned polling booth during the designated voting hours, several procedural steps will facilitate the voting process:

Verification: The first polling official will verify the voter's details and ID proof.
Marking and Recording: The second polling official will mark the voter's finger with ink, issue a slip, and record the voter's signature on Form 17A.
Submission and Entry: The voter will submit the slip to the third polling official, display the inked finger, and proceed into the polling booth.
Casting the Vote: Inside the booth, the voter will cast their vote by pressing the corresponding ballot button on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) opposite the chosen candidate's symbol. A beep sound and red LED light confirmation will follow.
Verification and Sealing: The printed slip from the VVPAT machine will be verified, displaying the candidate's serial number, name, and symbol for 7 seconds before being sealed in the VVPAT box.
NOTA Option: Voters have the option to select NOTA (None of the Above) if none of the candidates are satisfactory, which is the final option on the EVM.
