Lok Sabha Elections 2024: How to cast vote? Here is a step-by-step guide

Voting in person is fundamental to democratic participation in India. Here's a clear guide to help you through the process.

Confirm eligibility and register: Make sure you meet the requirements, like being an Indian citizen and at least 18 years old by January 1. Once eligible, register online or offline.

Verification at the polling station: An official will check your name on the voter list and your ID when you arrive.


Have your Voter ID card ready: This serves as your identification during voting.

Verify your name on the electoral roll beforehand to ensure accuracy.

Inking and slip collection: Your finger will be inked, and you'll receive a slip and sign a register.

Hand over the slip, show your inked finger, and proceed to the booth.

Cast your vote using the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) by pressing the button next to your chosen candidate's symbol. A beep confirms your selection.

Check the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slip displaying your candidate's details.
