UP Exit poll results: BJP-led NDA to get 58 seats, SP-BSP alliance at 20, projects Times Now

A Times Now VMR exit poll has predicted that the NDA will get 58 seats while the Mahagathbandhan of SP, BSP and the RLD will get 20 seats.

Uttar Pradesh, with its 80 Lok Sabha seats, is the electorally most important state often described as the path to Delhi. In the 2014 elections, the BJP-led NDA swept the state winning 73 seats paving the way for the party to easily cross the halfway mark in the Lok Sabha.

A Times Now-VMR exit poll has predicted that the NDA will get 58 seats while the Mahagathbandhan of SP, BSP and the RLD will get 20 seats. The Congress-led UPA will get just two seats, according to the Times Now poll.

The political dynamics within the state changed with the two major regional parties -- Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) -- coming together in hopes that the Mahagathbandhan will work electorally in their favour.

Congress party handed over the charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh to Priyanka Gandhi hoping that her presence will turn the fortunes of India's Grand Old Party which has been struggling for revival in India's largest state.

The BJP had repeated its performance in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls in the 2017 state elections winning 312 assembly seats in a House of 403.

In the 2014, Lok Sabha polls the Congress won just two seats while the BSP had drawn a nil. The Samajwadi Party had won five seats.
