2024 Lok Sabha elections: Phase 2 voting on April 26. Here's what's open and what's closed

The second phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be held tomorrow in several states. In total, 89 Lok Sabha seats across 13 states and Union territories will go to the polls in the second phase on April 26.

The elections will be held in all 20 seats of Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Manipur, Tripura, and Jammu and Kashmir.

During the 2019 elections, the BJP clinched 303 seats, while the Congress managed to secure 52, falling short of the required number to assume the role of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. These elections, announced on March 10, were conducted in seven phases.

Stock markets will remain open on April 26. The NSE had earlier said that it will be closed on May 20 when voting will be held in Mumbai.

Despite being declared a public holiday, not all private offices will be closed. However, if you are an eligible voter, you are entitled to a public holiday and can take a day off to cast your vote.

Banks will be closed in Bangalore, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Jammu according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday schedule for 2024.

Some state governments have declared public holidays on April 26, so in those areas, government offices will also remain closed.

Schools and colleges will also remain closed during the polling day.

Liquor shops will also remain shut on the voting day. In fact, a dry day has been declared in the polling constituencies 48 hours before the voting itself.
