The schedule for the current General Elections of 2024 has been made public by the Indian Election Commission. The program calls for holding polls in the nation in seven parts over a period of over three months.

First round elections were held across the nation on April 19, with the Northeastern states of Arunachal, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, and Sikkim.

West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir are some of the other significant states. As of 5 PM in Phase One of the Lok Sabha elections 2024, around 60% of polling has been conducted, according to the Election Commission. Many states will hold their first round of voting on April 26, 2024, while some states will hold their second round of voting on the same day.

Schools and institutions are closed on election day. There are several reasons why general elections are held. Both urban and rural schools are used as polling places; therefore, in order to facilitate setup, voting, and the counting that follows, among other things, schools must be closed. Closures during turbulent polling times are motivated by security concerns and to minimize disturbance for students and staff.

The following states will have voting in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, and on April 26, 2024, schools will be closed.
