‘Will blast the Governor’ mail sparks security clampdown at Kolkata Raj Bhavan

Kolkata: Security was beefed up at Kolkata’s Lok Bhavan on late Thursday night after West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose received a threatening email stating "will blast him", allegedly warning of a blast and posing a threat to his life, an official statement said.

The Governor had received an email message, saying “Will blast the Governor” following which the security was beefed up and matter was informed to the Union Home Ministry that there is a life threat to Governor, Raj Bhavan informed in a statement.

“Kolkata police and CRPF acting in unison to protect the Governor. There has been a midnight conclave of the security forces In-charge of the Governor 's security. Governor is a Z plus category security,Raj Bhawan, not renamed as Lok Bhavan recently.


“This is not the first time that the Governor received such a threat prior to this as well. There were earlier instances as well,” people in the know said.

Following this, the Governor decided that he will walk on the streets of Kolkata without security guards. “He is confident that people of Bengal will protect him,” people in the know said.

The Governor's walk on the streets of Kolkata at Deckers Lane will start today at 10 .30am.

Further details are awaited as investigations into the threat messages continue.
