The decision follows reports of alleged electoral malpractices during the second phase of polling in these constituencies on April 29.

The repoll order was based on inputs from returning officers and observers, with the Commission taking into account “material circumstances” before arriving at its decision.

The BJP had alleged widespread electoral malpractices in certain polling stations in both constituencies, which fall under the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat represented by TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee.

The Commission had also deputed a special observer, Subrata Gupta, to verify the allegations on the ground.
