West Bengal supplementary voter list triggers high-level security meeting
Kolkata: A high-level meeting was held at the Calcutta High Court, presided by Chief Justice Sujoy Paul, to ensure the safety and security of the judicial officers and discuss the overall law and order situation in West Bengal, ahead of the publication of the first Supplementary list this weekend, following Adjudication.

The newly appointed Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariala, Director General of State Police (DGP) Siddh Nath Gupta and the Kolkata Commissioner of Police Ajay Kumar Nand were present in the meeting at the High Court.

The first Supplementary List in West Bengal after the adjudication process is expected to be published tomorrow or Saturday. Till Wednesday night, 23.30 lakh adjudication cases have been disposed of by judicial officers appointed by Calcutta High Court.

According to sources, the Chief Justice convened this emergency meeting to ensure full security of the judicial officers engaged in the adjudication process, while simultaneously keeping a strict vigil to prevent any potential violence or unrest, by those whose names may get excluded from the first supplementary list, following list publication, sources said.

Once published, the supplementary list will be forwarded to the District Magistrates, a top Election Commission (EC) official said. Voters will be able to verify their names in the supplementary list using their EPIC numbers. The provisions will also be made that the supplementary list online can be viewed online. It has been learnt that additions and deletions will be explicitly indicated in the supplementary list.

A detailed software related training was undertaken by the ECI yesterday, where 700 plus judicial officers were present. Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal and Special Rolls Observer Subrata Gupta were also present at the meeting.
