The Nandigram movement was instrumental in catapulting Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee to power in 2011 and will ensure her political doom too, West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh has said.

“Nandigram poll will decide Bengal’s future. The Nandigram farmland movement brought Mamata Banerjee to power. This seat will dethrone her,” Ghosh told ET in an exclusive interview.

“Didi is apprehensive and hence bringing baseless charges about EVM malfunctions, tampering and outsider goons. She is giving so many excuses before her defeat. It was Mamata Banerjee who demanded presence of central forces during polls in 2009 and 2011 and now she blames CAPF and the Election Commission,” he said.

Alleging ‘lawlessness’ in the state, Ghosh said: “A minor was gangraped for her family’s political allegiance. If voted to power, BJP will ensure Bengal is a safe place for women.” Exuding confidence over Suvendu Adhikari’s win in Nandigram, Ghosh said the Adhikari family has worked for development of Nandigram for years. “Suvendu will win by a huge margin and our leadership in Delhi is hopeful about it,” Ghosh said.

On BJP not projecting a CM Ghosh said: “BJP never fights with a CM face. We project Narendra Modi’s work and later decide on the CM. That is how we worked in Tripura.” If voted to power, BJP will work for industrialisation, employment generation and development. “We need industries across the state. The lawlessness in Bengal must end and pave the way for growth and development.”
