Kolkata: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday carried out a major police reshuffle in West Bengal, transferring 19 IPS officers, including six Commissioners of Police and 13 District Police Superintendents.

In addition, the ECI has appointed 478 central observers for the state, including 294 general observers, ensuring one observer for each constituency.

Among the IPS officers transferred, Dr. Rajesh Kumar Singh (IPS-1997) will be posted as ADG & IGP, South Bengal Region; K. Jayaraman (IPS-1997) as ADG & IGP, North Bengal Region; Pranav Kumar (IPS-2003) as Commissioner of Police, Asansol-Durgapur; Akhilesh Kumar Chaturvedi (IPS-2005) as Commissioner of Police, Howrah; Amit Kumar Singh (IPS-2009) as Commissioner of Police, Barrackpore; and Sunil Kumar Yadav (IPS-2009) as Commissioner of Police, Chandannagar.

ECI has said that the directions have to be implemented with immediate effect and a compliance report in respect of joining of above officers be sent by 11 AM on March 18.

In addition to this, 13 new Superintendents of Police have been appointed. Among them, Pushpa (IPS 2012) has been appointed as SP Barasat Police District, Jaspreet Singh (IPS 2016) in Coochbehar, Surya Pratap Yadav (IPS 2011) in Birbhum, Rakesh Singh (IPS 2014), Kumar Sunny Raj (IPS 2017) Ishani Paul (IPS 2013) as SP. Diamond Harbour, Sachin (lPS 2013) SP, Murshidabad PD, Alaknanda Bhowal (lPS 2017) SP. Basirhat PD, Anupam Singh (lPS 2015) SP, Malda, Ansshuman Saha (lPS 2012) SP. Purba Medinipur, Papiya Sultana (SPS 2015) has been posted as SP, Paschim Medinipur, among others.
