Kolkata: Election Commission of India has sought a report on the violence in Paschim Medinipur's Dantan, with several BJP workers, including the BJP candidate, reportedly injured during a motorbike rally. Many motorbikes were vandalised and set ablaze. The incident happened just 48 hours before the first phase of the elections on Thursday.

Local BJP workers claimed that their motorbike rallies passed Mohanpur area, when they were attacked by Trinamool-backed miscreants. However, a local Trinamool leader claimed that BJP workers entered a minority-dominated area and asked them to chant 'Jai Sri Ram' which led to trouble.

Many BJP workers were reportedly hospitalised after the incident and a viral video (the veracity of which has not been verified by ET) showed many motorbikes were vandalised.
