Kolkata: West Bengal's electoral rolls have shrunk by around 91 lakh voters ahead of the Assembly polls, with 27.16 lakh found "not eligible" after adjudication by 705 judicial officers under High Court monitoring. Earlier, 63 lakh names had already been deleted in the final rolls published on February 28, 2026. The highest numbers of ineligible voters are from Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas and Malda.

The rolls for the first phase were frozen at midnight, ahead of polling on April 23. Election Commission of India (ECI) data shows that 60,06,675 cases were taken up for adjudication, of which 32,68,119 (32.68 lakh) were found eligible, while 27,16,393 (27.16 lakh) were declared ineligible.

Those declared "not eligible" can appeal before the Appellate Tribunal, and filings have already begun across the state.

Before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) began on November 4 last year, the total number of voters stood at 7,66,37,529, based on rolls frozen on October 27. In the draft rolls published in December, 58,20,899 names were deleted. In the final rolls published on February 28, deletions rose to 63,66,952.

A total of 59,01,008 cases have received e-signatures from judicial officers.

Post-adjudication, minority-dominated Murshidabad and Malda recorded the highest number of ineligible voters. Murshidabad accounts for 4,55,137 deletions, followed by North 24 Parganas (3,25,666) and Malda (2,39,375). Nadia recorded 2,08,626 ineligible voters, while South 24 Parganas saw 2,22,929 such cases.

The two-phase Assembly elections in West Bengal will be held on April 23 and April 29. Voting will take place in 152 constituencies in the first phase and 142 in the second. Results are scheduled to be declared on May 4.
