The Election Commission of India on Saturday said around 31 lakh names have been added through two supplementary electoral lists in West Bengal. With this, the state’s total electorate has risen to 6.76 crore, up from 6.44 cr as of February 28, excluding the adjudication list of 60.6 lakh.

However, the Commission did not provide clarity on deletions in the supplementary lists. Of the 60.6 lakh cases under adjudication, around 37 lakh have been disposed of by 705 judicial officers under the supervision of the Calcutta High Court.

The second supplementary list was published late Friday night, while the first was released earlier this week. Those left out can appeal within 15 days—online or offline- —before appellate tribunals. State Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal said the Commission is prepared to publish daily supplementary lists, subject to submissions from judicial officers.


With polling scheduled in two phases on April 23 and 29, the Commission is also stepping up surveillance with 100% webcasting
