West Bengal: BJP workers gather all across the state in large numbers to celebrate party's lead

Kolkata: BJP workers gathered all across the state in large numbers, even outside the residence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on Monday, and started celebrating, raising slogans in support of the saffron show all across the state, with trends showing decisive shift. People were playing with saffron Holi in Kolkata and all across the state. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee released a video message as the counting of votes was underway, urged the public workers not to leave the counting centre and said in the evening she will emerge as the winner.


In Kolkata’s Murlidhar Sen Street, old party office of BJP, BJP workers distributed “jhalmuri” and ladoos. Jhalmuri became popular after PM Narendra Modi’s Jhalmuri outreach in Jhargram.


Celebrations started in Bhabanipur and in places like Diamond Harbour, stronghold of Trinamool Congress national secretary Abhishek Banerjee, with BJP’s lead in Satgachhia, Sagar and Magrahat and several other areas.

BJP celebrated party’s spectacular performance in the assembly elections. In the video, going viral on social media, hundreds of BJP supporters were seen celebrating on the streets near the Chief Minister’s residence in the Kalighat area, raising slogans like ‘Jai Shri Ram’, ‘BJP Zindabad’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’. Police later intervened and dispersed the crowd to maintain law and order.

The development came as the BJP was ahead in 192 seats, according to data released by the Election Commission of India, with Trinamool Congress, leading in 90 constituencies.

In Kharagpur in Paschim Medinipur district also, the BJP workers and supporters celebrated the party’s early lead, which led to confrontations with Trinamool Congress supporters, who raised ‘Jai Bangla’ slogans in response.

"We will get 200 plus votes and when Bengal gives they give in a liberal manner. We will give good governance. False statements of Mamata Banerjee must end. People must maintain peace," BJP Kharagpur candidate Dilip Ghosh said.

WB CM’s video message

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee released a video message as the counting of votes was underway. She posted the message on her social media handle X. The Trinamool supremo appealed to all her party candidates and counting agents not to leave the counting centres till the end.

“This is the BJP’s plan. I have already said this on Sunday. In the initial rounds, the counting is slow. it will be shown that the BJP candidates are ahead in a majority of the assembly constituencies. I heard that in almost 100 Assembly constituencies, they have stopped counting after the first two to three rounds,” the Chief Minister said in the video message.
