Major violence broke out in South 24 Parganas district's Basanti, with miscreants allegedly beating up BJP workers and attacking police personnel

Kolkata: Major violence broke out in South 24 Parganas district's Basanti, with miscreants allegedly beating up BJP workers and attacking police personnel, during the campaign of Basanti BJP candidate Bikash Sardar near Basanti Bazar area. It has been learnt that several police personnel and at least 8-10 BJP workers were injured in the incident. Atleats 8 miscreants were arrested, police sources said. A huge CAPF and a huge police force reached the spot after the incident.

A purported video showed that a person was severely beaten up by bamboo sticks by a group of miscreants. The veracity of the video has not been verified by ET. A RAF personnel was also seen running away when the clash broke out.

Earlier, police were also attacked during the incident. Several police personnel were injured during the incident as the BJP candidate started campaigning in the area at 1PM.

BJP candidate Bikash Sardar claimed that he was campaigning but several vehicles were vandalised.

The roads were blocked by the Trinamool Congress workers and police were also attacked, sources said, "Trinamool Congress workers attacked us in a planned manner. Trinamool has joined hands with BDO and local administration and are trying to attack BJP. They are scared of their defeat. My brother was also attacked. Many vehicles were vandalized," Sardar said. "Around 8-10 BJP workers were injured. I was with the PC van. The incident happened near Basanti market. I was attacked from behind and they were beating us with bamboo sticks and carrying arms," a injured BJP worker said,
