Trinamool leads Opposition protest in Lok Sabha against SIR, ECI brass
Trinamool Congress members protested in the Lok Sabha against the Election Commission. They allege bias in West Bengal's electoral roll revision. The party plans to move an impeachment motion against the Chief Election Commissioner. Other oppositi...

The protest is seen as a part of a Trinamool plan to rally an Opposition impeachment motion against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. As soon as the Lower House commenced, Trinamool members raised slogans and trooped into the well of the House. Members of other Opposition parties also joined the protest, leading to a brief adjournment in the House.
Trinamool members, who didn't initially sign an Opposition-sponsored notice for a resolution to remove the Lok Sabha Speaker, had a couple of days ago said they will back the same. They also made it clear that Trinamool Congress expects other Opposition parties to back its resolve to bring an impeachment motion notice against the CEC.
Talking to media persons later, Trinamool MP Saugata Roy questioned the conduct of the SIR exercise in West Bengal, noting that as many as 5.9 million voters are on the adjudication list. "We will move it (notice for impeachment motion against the CEC) in the Rajya Sabha in a few days," he added.
