Paschim Midnapore: In a scathing attack on Trinamool Congress and Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi came down heavily on both all opposition political parties for their "conspiracy against women" preventing the Women’s Reservation (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha.

“You have seen what happened in Parliament. Trinamool did not want women wanted MPs and MLAs. TMC did conspiracy with Congress and 33% reservation was not allowed and the law of Women's reservation could not be passed,” Modi lashed out from Bankura’s Barjora public rally on Sunday.

The first campaign rally was addressed by the Prime Minister will be at Barjora in Bankura district, which will be followed by three other rallies at Purulia in Purulia district, Jhargram in Jhargram district and finally at Medinipur (Belda) in West Midnapore district.

“Trinamool Congress will have to pay the price in the assembly elections in West Bengal for hatching conspiracy with Congress and other opposition parties in blocking the Women’s Reservation (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha last week, Modi said on Sunday.

“The mothers and sisters of West Bengal will punish the Trinamool Congress for this. You have seen what happened in the Parliament? Trinamool Congress has once again betrayed the sisters of West Bengal. Trinamool Congress do not want women in West Bengal to be MLAs and MPs in large numbers. This is because the women in West Bengal are challenging Trinamool Congress’s misrule in the state,” the Prime Minister said while addressing a campaign rally.

Responding to PM’s rally, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “It is deeply unfortunate that the Prime Minister chose to mislead the nation rather than address it honestly.”

“Let me put this on record. Trinamool Congress has always championed higher political representation for women. We have the highest proportion of female elected representatives in both Parliament and the State Legislature. In the Lok Sabha, 37.9% of our elected members are women. In the Rajya Sabha, we have nominated 46% women members. The question of opposing Women's Reservation does not arise and never has,” Banerjee said in her X Handle Post.

“What we are fundamentally opposed to is the Delimitation exercise that the Modi Government was plotting to push through by using women as a shield for its vested political agenda. What we are fundamentally opposed to is the altering of Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution, the division of this nation and the usurpation of power through gerrymandering, by redrawing political contours to hand greater representation to BJP-ruled states at the expense of others. This is an assault on federal democracy. And we will not watch it happen in silence,” she said.
