The chief minister said that the BJP is targeting West Bengal with all its might as it knows that she will go for the Centre soon after securing victory in her state.
Blaming the BJP for stealing the ‘parivartan’ slogan from her –– a theme she had coined in 2011 –– Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said that she will pave the way for a ‘parivartan’ in Delhi by forming a new government in Bengal in 2021.

Addressing three public rallies back-to-back at East Midnapore which is going for polls in the first phase on March 27, she urged the people not to vote for the BJP as “the party is ready to sell off the country.” She addressed rallies at Tamluk, Egra and Patashpur on Friday.

Banerjee claimed that she has prevented the NPR (National Population Register) in Bengal, thus stopping the deletion of voters’ names. “The names of thousands of voters were deleted in Assam without any reason but by preventing NPR, I have helped the people,” Mamata said.

“They are selling the banks and insurance companies in the country. They are selling Railways as well. People’s money is not safe in their hands,” Banerjee warned, adding that “the BJP is afraid of me because they know that they can buy everyone but not me.”

She attacked the BJP for the rise in prices of LPG and kerosene.

Claiming that if voted to power, the BJP will destroy Bengal’s cultural fabric, Banerjee said, “Outsiders (BJP) are trying to capture the iconic places of the state. If they are voted to power, they will destroy the fabric of the state. If Bengal rejects them, then in the 2024 election they will lose power even from Delhi,” she said.

Taking a dig at her opponent in Nandigram, Suvendu Adhikari, Banerjee said she was relieved after 'traitors' defected to the BJP. “Midnapore was under the control of a traitor (read Suvendu) till now. I was not even allowed to come to Midnapore. I had blind affection for him. Before entering Midnapore everyone, including me, had to take permission from that traitor,” she claimed. She also warned the people that the BJP will resort to ‘unscrupulous’ means to win the election.
