Malda: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Friday credited the state's Criminal Investigation Department for arresting the alleged mastermind behind Wednesday's gherao of judicial officers in Malda district's Mothabari. The CID arrested the accused even before the NIA team reached the state, she said.

Addressing a rally at Harirampur in Dakshin Dinajpur district, Banerjee also accused BJP of using CRPF vehicles to transport cash. "I have a record of these movements and will expose them at the appropriate time," the CM said.

Calling the Malda incident, where seven judicial officers including three women were held hostage, a conspiracy of the BJP, Banerjee claimed that this police organisation, CID, was still under her control and not under the Election Commission of India.

"The BJP took him (the accused) from the AIMIM and brought him here," Banerjee alleged. "The ISF is with them; the Congress and BJP have also provided instigation," she said. Banerjee accused the BJP of trying to create unrest in Malda.
