No celebrations on counting day

The order comes as counting of votes for the 2026 Assembly elections is scheduled to take place on May 4 and is expected to continue through the day. Authorities said the step was aimed at maintaining peace and preventing any law and order issues during the process.

Processions allowed from May 5 with permission

Kolkata Police said victory processions, if any, may be held only from May 5 onwards, and that too after obtaining prior permission from the officer-in-charge of the concerned police station.

“All such permitted processions shall strictly adhere to the prevailing rules and guidelines and the conditions imposed in the permission,” the notification said.
