BJP will get Gorkhas centre stage, says Amit Shah
Speaking at a rally in Darjeeling and Nagrakata on Tuesday, Shah said, “Our Constitution is “vast” and has provisions for solving all problems. I promise you all, we will find a resolution to the issues of the Gorkhas.”

Speaking at a rally in Darjeeling and Nagrakata on Tuesday, Shah said, “Our Constitution is “vast” and has provisions for solving all problems. I promise you all, we will find a resolution to the issues of the Gorkhas.”
“You will not have to resort to agitations anymore,” he said.
The Gorkhas have long-standing demand for statehood and the hilly regions of Darjeeling witnessed a violent statehood movement led by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung in 2017. Hills have seen years of statehood movement by GNLF during Left regime.
GJM leader Bimal Gurung, a former ally of BJP, had gone into hiding for several months as several criminal charges were pressed against him by Mamata Banerjee government. He resurfaced in October last year and extended her support for Mamata Banerjee.
The ruling TMC has left the three Darjeeling constituencies to its allies from the Hills -- the two GJM factions led by Gurung and Binay Tamang.
