Election Commission shunts out security director, DM and SP of Purba Medinipur district

At Sunday’s meeting, the EC considered the reports submitted by the chief secretary and the joint report submitted by EC’s special general observer Ajay Nayak and special police observer Vivek Dube and ordered immediate disciplinary action.

Dismissing the Trinamool Congress’ allegations that the attack on chief minister Mamata Banerjee at Nandigram on March 10 was ‘premeditated’, the Election Commission indicated that security lapses and failure of ‘bandobast’ for the CM’s election rally were the actual cause of concern. On Sunday, the EC shunted out the security director, DM and SP of Purba Medinipur district where the incident occurred.

At Sunday’s meeting, the EC considered the reports submitted by the chief secretary and the joint report submitted by EC’s special general observer Ajay Nayak and special police observer Vivek Dube and ordered immediate disciplinary action.

EC has appointed another special police observer to West Bengal –– retired IPS officer AK Sharma –– and directed that the Nandigram probe be completed within 15 days.
