Domkal assembly election results 2026: In Humayun Kabir vs Mostafijur Rahaman, who is winning?

As the final phase of the high-stakes West Bengal elections plays out, Domkal in Murshidabad is witnessing a keen contest between former IPS officer Humayun Kabir and CPI(M)’s Mostafijur Rahaman.

The constituency was once a stronghold of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), which won it 11 times, including nine consecutive victories between 1977 and 2016. The Congress managed to breach this dominance only twice, securing wins in 1969 and 1972. CPM leader Anisur Rahman remained a central figure in the seat, winning six straight terms from 1991 to 2016.

However, the party’s grip began to weaken in its later years. In both 2011 and 2016, the CPM retained the seat with relatively narrow margins—3,075 and 6,890 votes—while the Trinamool Congress steadily expanded its presence in the constituency.


Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) is hoping to win its fourth consecutive term by overcoming a spirited challenge from the main opposition BJP, while the CPI(M) and the Congress are trying to reclaim a foothold following their wipeout in the 2021 polls. Smaller parties like Humayun Kabir’s AJUP and Asaduddin Owasi’s AIMIM are also trying their luck in some crucial pockets.
