The BJP said that breaking the chain of coronavirus infection is much needed in such a difficult time and it will leverage its "massive digital footprint" to take across the message of its top leaders to the voters.
With the rising number of Covid cases across the country and in Bengal, the BJP has decided to stop all big rallies in Bengal with immediate effect. The decision was taken by BJP national president JP Nadda after a virtual meeting with all the central and state BJP functionaries.

Before the BJP, Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, had announced the cancellation of any further big rallies. Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday cancelled all her rallies in Kolkata and appealed to her party leaders to scale down their public meetings and campaigns.

The decision would be applicable to rallies addressed by PM Modi. Rather than large meetings, the party would organise small meetings which would be attended by 500 people following all Covid protocols. “These small meetings will take place in open spaces following all Covid guidelines. The party has also decided to distribute six crores of masks and sanitisers in Bengal,” the party release stated.

People would be encouraged to join these meetings virtually from their respective places. BJP is likely to put up screens for people to watch these rallies at party offices. BJP has earlier used this method during the Bihar elections in November last year, where several rallies took place virtually with the party making arrangements for people to watch it. Three phases of polling are left in Bengal with polls ending on April 29.On Sunday, JP Nadda had a virtual meeting with BJP office-bearers and workers and instructed them to start a new project –– ‘Apna Booth, Corona Mukt’.
