BJP leader allegedly dubs Mamata Banerjee a ‘witch’, calls for her beheading; TMC slams PM Modi

The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), in a post on X, shared a video of Sanjay Das, vice-president of the BJP’s Mathurapur unit in South 24 Parganas, in which the leader can be heard referring Banerjee as a “witch”. The leader also allegedly called for her “beheading” during the party’s ‘Poriborton Sabha’.
The video also reportedly shows BJP leaders, including Das, handing over a sword to former state BJP chief Dilip Ghosh, who was present at the event.
Reacting sharply, the TMC accused the BJP of encouraging violence and said such statements amounted to “outright criminality.” The party further alleged that senior BJP leaders felt emboldened to make such remarks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had ‘normalised misogyny’ in the past.
"When the Prime Minister of the country himself normalises misogyny by catcalling an elected Chief Minister with “Didi, O Didi,” it’s no surprise that other @BJP4India leaders feel licensed to descend into outright criminality. At BJP’s “Poriborton Sabha,” their Vice President of Mathurapur OD, Sanjay Das, handed a kharga (sword) to @DilipGhoshBJP, branded our Hon’ble Chairperson a “ডাইনি” (witch), and openly called for her beheading. A public call for murder against a democratically elected woman Chief Minister. Is this the “Poriborton” Bengal wants? Women being threatened, violence being glorified, and lynch-mob language being normalised from the stage?," TMC said in the post.
