Kolkata: Union home minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday that BJP is determined to bring a solution to the Gorkha issue in the Darjeeling hills in a constitutional manner without dividing West Bengal.

Promising to weed out infiltrators once BJP comes to power, he accused chief minister Mamata Banerjee of trying to intimidate the state's majority community. Addressing a poll rally in Gangarampur in the north Bengal district of Dakshin Dinajpur, he said: "ECI is conducting an SIR to remove the names of infiltrators while Didi is crying for infiltrators."

Shah said: "ECI has deployed CAPF all across Bengal and put a leash on Banerjee's goons." Calling Aam Janata Unnayan Party founder Humayun Kabir "Didi's agent", he said: " Kabir wants to build a Babri Masjid in Bengal. We will not allow him."

At a rally in Malda's Manikchak, he said the Rajbanshi brothers' demands will be met and the Rajbanshi language would be included in 8th Schedule of the Constitution.

On BJP's development plan for north Bengal, Shah said, "Four townships will be built in north Bengal. BJP will set up a world-class state highway from Darjeeling to Sundarbans." He reiterated the party's manifesto promises that an AIIMS, a 600-bed cancer hospital, an IIT, an IIM, and a sports university would be constructed in north Bengal. Cold storage chains would be built in Malda to store the famous Malda mangoes, he assured.

Shah also participated in a road show in Uttar Dinajpur district's Kaliaganj.
