BJP unveils fourth list of 13 candidates for Bengal polls, replaces Maynaguri nominee

The BJP on Tuesday unveiled its fourth list of 13 candidates for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections 2026, while also announcing a change in its nominee for the Maynaguri constituency.

The candidates in the latest list, included Soma Thakur from the Bagda seat. Shyamal Hati has been fielded from Howrah Dakshin, Girija Shankar Roy from Natabari and Ashutosh Barma from Sitai.

Among others, Uttam Kumar Banik will contest from Magrahat Purba, Debangshu Panda from Falta, Debashish Dhar from Sonarpur Uttar and Ranjan Kumar Paul from Panchla.

Earlier, the BJP had released its first list of 144 candidates, featuring several prominent leaders. These included Suvendu Adhikari, who is contesting from both Nandigram and Bhabanipur, and Agnimitra Paul from Asansol Dakshin. The party fielded candidates across multiple regions, including North Bengal, Murshidabad, Hooghly, Bankura, Purulia and parts of South Bengal.

The second list covered constituencies largely in North Bengal such as Mekliganj, Dhupguri, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong and Darjeeling along with seats in Murshidabad and Nadia. The party also fielded several SC/ST candidates in reserved constituencies, underscoring its focus on expanding social coalitions in the state.

In its third list of 19 candidates, the BJP included Ratna Debnath, the mother of the RG Kar rape-and-murder victim, among its nominees.
