Kolkata: Bhowanipore is set to witness a battle royale in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly polls, with Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari taking on CM Mamata Banerjee on her home turf, reprising their high-stakes clash from five years ago.

Adhikari will contest two seats-Bhowanipore and Nandigram, where he had edged out Banerjee by 1,956 votes in 2021.

Banerjee on Tuesday announced she will contest from Bhowanipore, which goes to polls on April 29, days after the BJP named Adhikari for both seats.

In 2021, TMC's Sobhondeb Chattopadhyay had won Bhowanipore and later vacated it for Banerjee, who has represented the seat since 2011, winning it first in a bypoll and retaining it in 2016 with a reduced margin.
