Meanwhile, a three-member committee has been formed to look into infrastructure and other modalities related to the appellate tribunals. "Till evening, 37 lakh cases have been disposed of by 705 judicial officers under the monitoring of the Calcutta High Court," West Bengal CEO Manoj Agarwal told media persons. The first supplementary list was published on Monday. Agarwal and Special Rolls Observer Subrata Gupta held a high-level meeting with Calcutta HC Chief Justice Sujay Paul on Friday. However, infrastructure for the appellate tribunal has not yet been readied. The ECI had announced the constitution of 19 tribunals under the supervision of the high court.
ECI has said that the entire process is being conducted under the supervision of HC Chief Justice.
Around 58 lakh names were deleted during the draft list release phase of SIR exercise. Another five lakh were deleted during the final electoral roll release on February 28.
ECI Seeks Report on CM's Rally
The ECI has asked the Bengal CEO to submit a report related to comments made by Mamata Banerjee during a recent rally. "In a video, Mamata Banerjee can be seen openly threatening CRPF personnel by asking all women and girls to be present at polling booths and, if necessary, use household kitchen equipment to deal with situations," ECI sources said.
In the backdrop of violence in Murshidabad and Basanti, and past incidents in the state, the ECI has issued detailed instructions to District Election Officers, District Magistrates, SPs, and Commissioners of Police. Detailed guidelines have also been issued for Officers-in-Charge.
